Cancer Prevention Screening

Our cancer prevention testing is an exciting new service that we can now offer to our patients in office and at health fairs that can help save lives. The name of this test is PREVENTEST. Preventest is a non-invasive mouthwash, followed by a check swab. Swabs are sent to the lab and results typically arrive within 2 to 3 weeks.

What Preventest looks for is the genetically linked “mutated gene”. This test can help your doctor determine your risk profile for developing 7 genetically linked cancers. These cancers includebreast, ovarian, colorectal, pancreatic, prostate, stomach, and skin.

Preventest is 99% accurate.

Patients must fill out a 10-question Preventest form prior to screening. The purpose of this form is to establish medical necessity for the test. Questions include information about history of these cancers in your family. Patients that score a “ten” are eligible for this test. Approximately 1 in 4 patients will qualify for Preventest.

For patients that have positive results for this mutated gene, we can determine their likelihood of acquiring these cancers. We do not treat the patient with positive results; rather we refer them to their primary care physician. Patients with this information are more informed. Preventive measures can be taken with their primary care, including more frequent cancer screenings and earlier screenings. Insurance takes a more proactive approach, covering these more frequent and earlier screenings for the patient. The high likelihood of cancer, caught early, can, and does, save many lives.
